The best time of year for an Italy wedding is June, July and August. At least this is what the statistics say. Though really its all down to personal preference, budget, location, practicality and more. Wedding Photographers & Other Suppliers

Wedding season in Italy begins to take off in May all the way through to mid October. For Destination Wedding Photographers this is our most busiest time and the same goes for other Italian wedding vendors. There are of course weddings taking place outside of this six month period though the vast majority of all weddings in Italy happen during May to Mid October. Whats important about this is that Italy is a super popular place for  weddings though most of them happen in this six month period. This means that wedding venues, florists and all of the other suppliers will book up quick. Therefore its a good idea to book you’re suppliers early!

Italy Wedding Locations

There are plenty of different Italy Wedding Locations to think of when it comes to finding a wedding venue in Italy. During my time as a Tuscany Wedding Photographer I shot Mark + Megans wedding in Poppi. They wanted that real tuscan warm feel to their wedding and so a September wedding suited them best. My Abbey of San Galgano Wedding Photography was also in Tuscany though it was in July.

In places such as Lake Como you may have to really stick to the summer months. With it being mountainous and super close to the Alps, the weather can be much harsher in the winter and very unpredictable. When I was Jo + Marks Lake Como Wedding Photographer they had a beautiful villa wedding in August. Even in August though Lake Como can be unpredictable. After the wedding ceremony and just before the wedding breakfast. We went out on a boat trip that was supposed to last an hour. Within 10 minutes we had to turn back as a storm came rolling over the mountains.

The best time of year for an Italy wedding

The more northern Italy you decide to have your wedding the more your wedding could be affected by the weather. Basically anywhere around Milan, Lake Garda and Venice. Though don’t be fooled by it being so far North. When i was shooting for Vicky and Anthony as their Malcesine Castle Wedding Photographer it was incredibly hot in July. Here you can see a photo from Vickys wedding as she tried to cool down on the rooftop of the castle!

Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter

Which ever season you decide to have your Italy wedding there are huge positives to look at. If your heading further south to Sicily maybe in Autumn or Winter time you may be able to save some money on your budget and still get the warmth. Places like Taormina are perfect for this. One thing to consider if youre thinking of having a summer wedding is the increase in prices of not only the wedding venues but also the flights and hotels for your guests. It will be peak tourist time too and everywhere will be super busy. Villa Balbianello is a perfect lakeside location for a summer wedding. This could be one of the worlds most famous wedding venues.

Don’t Write Off The “Off Season”

It may be your instinct to think about the summer months. When it comes to thinking about the best time of year for an Italy wedding. Though one of the main disadvantages to the peak time of year is that it’s going to be really busy everywhere. Not just in your Italian location of choice. But the airports, transfers etc too. After shooting weddings all over Italy at many different times of year I would strongly suggest October. Matthew and Lauren had their wedding in October at Villa Zagara in Sorrento and it was incredible. The video shown above of the wedding was that wedding in Sorento and I hope you find it comforting to know that October is a great month to get married in Italy and may save you some money too!

Wherever and whenever you decide to have your Italian wedding I hope it really is the wedding of your dreams.
