Having a wedding in the UK can sometimes be problem with our unpredictable weather. Though its a shame really as the UK is home to some of the most beautiful outdoor wedding locations you can imagine. Especially in the Lake District. I’m based in the North West of England and Cumbria is a little over an hour away for me in the car. It’s a place I love to travel to both personally and as a Lake District Wedding Photographer. I’ve been super lucky to have photographed weddings here and I cant wait to get back and shoot there again soon!
I love outdoor weddings no matter the weather really and so I decided to put together this article of just some of the outdoor wedding venues in the Lake District. I hope you find this article helpful and if you have any questions about anything or maybe you’d like to see more of my work please feel free to have a look around my website or contact me.
I wanted to start with a wedding venue that I have already photographed at. I shot Steph and Ians wedding here and it was my first ever time shooting as Lodore Falls Wedding Photographer. I’m super excited to be shooting here again this year too. It’s on the shores of Derwent Water and its has amazing views over the lake and it also has an amazing backdrop behind of green and mountainous terrain. The Catbell’s fell that stands tall behind the venue is what will surround you whilst you say your vows under the gazebo. You can se more of Steph and Ians outdoor wedding on the blog here.
New House Farm
Another wedding venue I’ve had the pleasure of photographing at. Though this one is more of a wild card as they don’t actually do outdoor wedding ceremonies here. Though the outdoors plays such a huge impact into this wedding venue. If you take a look through Claire + Richie’s New House Farm Wedding you will see how much the outdoors had been incorporated into their wedding. It still has a rustic outdoorsy vibe in the barn though and most of guests hang around outdoors if the weather is great. There is so much outdoors to explore here too. It’s nestled in the Lorton valley and is surrounded by the Lakeland Fells. Be sure to check out their website to find out more!
This gorgeous wedding venue on the shores of Ullswater is perfect for weddings and for wedding photography too. This venue is all about why couples decide to have weddings in the lake district. It has 3 private jetties and the food here is incredible too! You can also have your wedding indoors here if the weather doesn’t allow it. However, the lakeside gazebo has amazing views over Lake Ullswater. Once you’ve had your outdoor wedding here, your guest will likely remain outdoors to enjoy the Cumbrian atmosphere. One of the reasons this place is one of the best Outdoor Wedding Venues In The Lake District is that most couples hop straight onto a boat for a short tour of Ullswater which is such a great idea to bring more of the atmosphere into the minds and lungs of your wedding guests!
Askham Hall
This outdoor wedding venue is relatively new in the grand scheme of things. It opened in the spring of 2014 and it’s home to a really modern country house the hall itself. It’s a fabulous Lake District Wedding Venue and it’s situated just on the edge of the Lake District National Park. They have a beautiful outdoor pavilion for an outdoor wedding ceremony. Indoors they have their medieval hall or you can go more rustic with a barn wedding ceremony. The grade II listed barn is perfect for weddings and can seat up to 150 guests.
I’m hoping to add more venues to this list of Outdoor Wedding Venues In The Lake District as I shoot at them more and more. If you’re thinking of getting married in the Lake District then you’re in for a treat for sure. As you begin your wedding planning journey I hope that more of my Helpful Wedding Articles can help you with your planning.
If you’re still looking for a wedding photographer for you day I would love to hear from you. I love chatting with couples about their wedding plans. It’s one of my favorite things. especially as a creative as when the ideas come and i hear about the venue, the guests, and everything else it all falls together and I start to get really excited!
