Lake Como Weddings
7 Reasons To Have Your Wedding Here
Congratulations! You’re tying the knot, and now you’re looking for the perfect place to celebrate the love between you and your partner with a destination wedding. Well, you’ve come to the right place! Lake Como is one of northern Italy’s most beautiful lakes (and the third largest in Italy), and it is surrounded by picturesque towns and villages with plenty of villas and restaurants to stay in and visit.
If you’re looking for a luxury wedding destination to start married life in style, you need look no further than Lake Como. Read on for 7 reasons you should choose Lake Como for your destination wedding. As an Italy Wedding Photographer its one of my favourite places in Italy to capture weddings.
Breath-Taking Scenery
There isn’t a person alive who could call any part of Lake Como and the surrounding landscape anything less than stunning. From the emerald hills surrounding the lake, to the glittering blue waters, and ancient stone architecture, standing on the lake’s edge feels like being in a fantasy.
Traditionally, Italian noble families have lived on Lake Como’s shores, or owned second homes here due to the beauty of the region and invested their wealth in the architecture of their homes, which you can still see today. Many of these villas are now owned by the rich and famous, who flock to the region to relax, enjoy the tranquil azure waters of the lake, and the incredible local food.
No Shortage of Luxury Venues
Lake Como isn’t short of incredible venues which perfectly balance modern luxury with the ancient history of the region and architecture. Some popular venues include Villa del Balbianello, Villa Carlotta, and my personal favourite, Villa Relais Vittoria, which I’ve had the pleasure of shooting a wedding at before (you can see that wedding here). If you want somewhere to start your research on a venue on Lake Como, be sure to read my post here on four of the best
For the actual ceremony, you’ll have a choice of historical churches if you are religious, at one of the many beautiful town halls, our outside one of the villas in the gardens or on the terrace overlooking the lake. If you want to have an outdoor wedding that is legally binding and isn’t a ceremony for symbolism, you’ll have to check with the venue that they are licensed appropriately.
Ideal for Intimate Weddings
Destination weddings are, by nature, intimate. While all of your friends and acquaintances would love you to fly them out to your Lake Como wedding, your pockets likely aren’t that deep. Lake Como wedding venues are best appreciated in smaller numbers, and some can’t accommodate parties over 30 people, so you’ll actually have more choice of venue with your intimate wedding party.
Incredible Food
While Lake Como may be best known for its looks, it is also famous for its food. The shores of Lake Como are peppered with amazing local restaurants, traditional cafes, and even Michelin-starred restaurants. All Lake Como weddings are beautifully catered with traditional Italian food served as a sit down three-course meal (or more!), or as a buffet. If your wedding party is small enough, you’d be remised not to eat in one of the phenomenal local restaurants where you can try local dishes, eat fresh fish, or try something more exotic in one of the Michelin-starred restaurants.
Beautiful Wedding Photos!
Lake Como is truly a fairy-tale, magical location for a destination wedding. When the day is over, what’s the best way to keep hold of those memories for years to come? Your wedding photos! Lake Como has so many opportunities for unique and mesmerising couples’ photos and photos of the whole wedding party.
If you are planning for your wedding to be just you and your future husband or wife, Lake Como is a perfect choice for romantic wedding photography that focuses solely on the two of you. Imagine images of the two of you in front of the incredible backdrop of Lake Como, walking in amongst the ancient buildings, or on a boat celebrating out on the lake – you won’t be short of options to create the wedding photos of your dreams.
An Amazing Honeymoon
Lake Como is an ideal place to stay after your wedding and continue your celebrations long after your wedding party has flown home. Not only are the villages and towns surrounding the lake incredible places to visit, but Lake Como is also located perfectly so you can make day trips to cities such as Milan, Bergamo, and Venice.
Glorious Weather
The weather here in the UK can be, well, a little hit or miss. Lake Como’s climate is very mild and you can confidently get married there from March right through to early November, and still expect good weather.
Within Easy Reach of Airports
Okay, so it’s a little boring, but this point is incredibly important when you’re planning a destination wedding. Lake Como is just 40 minutes drive from Milan’s airports.
