Alfredo and Jennifer’s Surprise Proposal at Broadway Tower in the Cotswolds

On 17th April 2026, I photographed Alfredo and Jennifer’s surprise proposal at Broadway Tower in the Cotswolds.

It was one of those days where the weather kept everyone guessing. I arrived at Broadway Tower really early to have a look around, work out the best angle, and stay in touch with Alfredo while we made a call on timing. Jennifer had no idea what was about to happen, so everything had to feel natural and low-key.

The rain had been pretty relentless through the day, and we had been messaging back and forth about whether it might be better to do the proposal earlier. With surprise proposals, you can plan as much as possible, but you still have to work with what the day gives you. In this case, the day gave us rain, dramatic clouds, a bit of uncertainty, and then, right when it mattered, something really beautiful.

Just as Alfredo proposed, the rain stopped.

Behind them, the sky opened up into an incredible sunset over the Cotswolds. A full rainbow appeared across the sky, and Broadway Tower stood behind them as this quiet, iconic backdrop. It could have gone either way with the weather, but for those few minutes, everything came together.

A Surprise Proposal at Broadway Tower

Broadway Tower is such a strong place visually. It sits high above the Cotswolds, surrounded by open land, big skies, and long views across the countryside. The tower itself gives you a really distinctive backdrop without needing to overcomplicate anything.

When I arrived, I spent some time working out the composition for the proposal. I wanted to keep enough distance so Jennifer would not notice me, but close enough to properly photograph the moment. The angle I settled on gave us the tower in the background, with Alfredo and Jennifer framed in a way that felt simple and cinematic.

I knew a backlit silhouette could work really well if the light came through, and somehow it did. The sky gave us that soft glow behind them, and the whole proposal had this calm, powerful feeling to it.

Jennifer was completely surprised. You could see it instantly. She was in shock, trying to take in what had just happened, and then the emotion really started to hit. Alfredo had clearly put so much thought into it, and when she said yes, they were both just smiling, laughing, hugging and taking it all in.

I stayed back enough to let them have the moment, but close enough to capture it properly. That balance is really important with proposals. You are there to document something huge, but you do not want to take over the moment or make it feel staged.

That is also how I approach candid wedding photography. It is not about forcing a moment to look a certain way. It is about reading what is happening, staying calm, and giving people enough space to be themselves.

Champagne, Sunset and Time to Take It All In

After the proposal, Jennifer realised I was there photographing it. She was so happy and clearly moved that Alfredo had arranged for the moment to be captured. There was a lovely mixture of shock, laughter and emotion.

I had brought a bottle of champagne and two glasses for them, so they could sit down, breathe, and enjoy the fact they had just got engaged. They spent some time on one of the benches near the tower, looking out over the Cotswold hills as the sun started to drop.

Those quieter moments after a proposal are often some of my favourites to photograph. The big question has happened, the nerves have gone, and the couple can just be together. Alfredo and Jennifer sat on the bench, drank champagne, talked, smiled, and let it all sink in.

With Broadway Tower in the background and the evening light moving across the landscape, it made for some really natural photographs. Nothing felt forced. It was just the two of them enjoying a huge moment in a beautiful place.

Candid Engagement Photos Around Broadway Tower

Once they had a bit of time together, we wandered around the tower for some relaxed portraits. I kept things simple and natural, giving them enough space to enjoy themselves rather than turning it into a big posed shoot.

The light kept changing, which gave us a really nice variety of images. We had softer moments around the benches, silhouettes against the sky, close-up details of the ring, and wider photographs with the tower and Cotswolds landscape behind them.

There were deer in the field nearby too, which added to the feeling of the place. Alfredo had wanted a really English setting for the proposal, and Broadway Tower gave them exactly that. The old tower, the open fields, the deer, the evening light and the rain-soaked countryside all made it feel very Cotswolds without needing to force anything.

There were also daisies in the field, which looked beautiful in the photographs and added a softness to the whole scene. Sometimes it is those simple details that make a place feel even more personal.

Sharing the News with Family

After the proposal, Alfredo and Jennifer made FaceTime calls to family in Miami and Colombia.

That was such a lovely part of the evening to photograph. You go from this quiet, private moment between two people to the excitement of sharing it with the people they love. There were big smiles, reactions through the phone, and that lovely feeling of the news travelling across the world in real time.

It added another layer to the story. This was not just a proposal in the Cotswolds. It was the start of a celebration that immediately connected their families across different places.

Because their families are based in Miami and Colombia, this proposal had that lovely international feeling I often see with couples who are planning celebrations across different places. I also photograph weddings internationally as one of the destination wedding photographers working across the UK, Europe and beyond.

Sunset, Silhouettes and a Rainbow

As the sun dropped lower, the light became even better. We made the most of the shape of the tower, the benches, and the flag flying above Broadway Tower. The silhouettes worked beautifully, especially with the sky behind them.

Then came the rainbow.

After a day of rain, it felt like the most fitting ending. Alfredo and Jennifer stood underneath it, newly engaged, with Broadway Tower nearby and the Cotswolds stretching out around them. It was one of those moments you cannot really plan, but you are very grateful for when it happens.

That is what I loved about this proposal. It had the planning and thoughtfulness from Alfredo, but it also had all the unpredictable bits that make real moments feel real. The rain, the waiting, the sudden sunset, the rainbow, the emotion, the champagne, the family calls. It all became part of the story.

Planning a Proposal Photoshoot at Broadway Tower

Broadway Tower is a brilliant location for a proposal in the Cotswolds because it gives you a strong sense of place. The tower itself is instantly recognisable, but the space around it also gives couples room to walk, sit, celebrate and have natural photographs without feeling boxed in.

For a surprise proposal, planning matters. It helps to think about where you will stand, where the light might be, how visible the photographer will be, and what the weather might do. But it is also important to leave room for the moment to unfold naturally.

With Alfredo and Jennifer, the best photographs came from a mix of preparation and patience. We had a rough plan, but once the proposal happened, I gave them space. That meant the photographs felt honest rather than staged.

If you are planning something similar elsewhere in the country, you might also like my work as a UK wedding photographer. Whether it is a proposal, an engagement shoot, or a wedding day, the approach is always about keeping the experience relaxed and the photographs honest.

If you are planning a proposal at Broadway Tower or elsewhere in the Cotswolds, I would always suggest keeping it simple. Choose a meaningful location, have a loose plan, and allow a bit of time afterwards. The few minutes after the proposal can be just as important as the proposal itself.
