Honeymoons in the Lake District

The world is full of the most amazing places from continent to continent there is breathtaking places for you to have your honeymoon. You don’t have to look as far as connecting international flights for a romantic honeymoon though. Couples from all over the world have their honeymoons in the Lake District. As a Lake District Wedding Photographer I’m lucky enough to visit the lake district a good few times per year.I’ve photographed weddings at some beautiful Lake District Weddings Venues and met some amazing people along the way.

honeymoons in the Lake District

So I’ve decided to put together a short article on why couples should have their honeymoons in the Lake District. Every time I visit this place when I’m photographing a wedding I always tell myself that I must visit more often! Its only then at my next wedding in the lakes I realise I’ve still not visited enough. Either way I’m a huge fan and I think its the perfect place for a honeymoon!

Romantic Lake District Cruises

Lake Windermere is the largest lake in England and has amazing cruises with breathtaking scenery for you and your now husband or wife to enjoy together. You can take a post wedding cruise on the lake from 45 minutes to 3 hours. After recently getting married you can make things a little more special on your cruise and enjoy the views with afternoon tea or enjoy an evening dinner cruise. Imagine enjoying the company of your newlywed partner with a glass of wine, great food and amazing views. You could do this or swap it all for a private hire boat for just the two of you and be a little more adventurous! Or do both!

Hot Tubs With Views

The Lake District is has some amazing accommodation all over from lakeside cottages to countryside hotels. It’s full of log cabins and high end lodges. Great places for you and your new spouse to enjoy together. Most of the accommodation places in the lakes have outdoor hot tubs with amazing views. I’m already feeling relaxed with just thought of sitting back in a hot tub with a Prosecco.

No Jet Lag

With less travelling time from European or world-wide honeymoon locations you’ll be able to have more time relaxing after the months of wedding planning and build up. Not to mention the wedding day itself. No matter where you are in the UK its pretty easy to get to with great road and rail connections. Not having all of the stress of the airport terminals, security, flying and jet lag (if you travel further) you can get relaxing right away in the Lake District.

Cumbrian Food + Dining

It’s compulsory for honeymoons to have great food and dining experiences wherever you go. Though it really does help if the place you are visiting has some great places to eat and drink. The Lake District is not short of eateries and bars etc. With its fair share of Michelin Star restaurants and super characteristic food places like Lucy’s of Ambleside you’ll have plenty of choice for places to eat, try some new foods or Michelin Star taster menus. In fact he food is so good up here I think this alone is one of the reasons people get married in the Lake District.

Fresh Air and Walking

Getting out and enjoying a country walk is great for your body, your mental health and just to help you feel good in general. The Lake District is world famous for its countryside walks and there are walks of all difficulties and distances. Imagine either an early morning fresh air walk or a romantic sunset walk in one of the most beautiful places in the world. You could follow your evening walk with a well deserved meal with extra desert and a good nights sleep. A perfect activity to take up for honeymoons in the Lake District.

Experiences and Activities

If you’re a more adventurous couple and you want your honeymoon to be a little more adventurous then be sure to try some of the following activities. I’ve already mentioned taking to the hills and doing some walking and also taking up a cruise. Though just look up adventurous things to do in the Lake District and you’ll see great activities such as Scrambling, Kayaking, Off Road Driving, Sailing, Skydiving, Paddle Boarding, Horse Riding and much more.
