Liverpool Wedding Photographer

Relaxed, editorial and documentary wedding photography for couples getting married in Liverpool, Merseyside and beyond.

I’m Ste, a Liverpool wedding photographer creating honest, stylish and relaxed wedding photos for couples who want to enjoy the day properly, without feeling like they are stuck in a photoshoot.

Liverpool has always been a huge part of my life and work. My studio address is in the city, I photograph weddings across Merseyside and the North West, and I know how good this part of the world can look when the light, the people and the atmosphere all come together. From city centre weddings around St George’s Hall and the docks, to relaxed celebrations at places like Sefton Palm House, Oh Me Oh My, The Titanic Hotel, Liverpool Town Hall and venues across Wirral, Cheshire and Lancashire, Liverpool weddings have their own energy.

That is what I care about most. Not just how the day looked, but how it felt.

If you are searching for a Liverpool wedding photographer because you want natural photographs, a calm presence and images that still feel stylish, I would love to hear what you are planning.

Wedding photography in Liverpool that feels natural, not staged

Most couples who get in touch with me say something similar. They love real moments, they do not want stiff posing, and they want to feel comfortable on the day. That is exactly how I work.

For most of the wedding, I am watching, listening and responding to what is actually happening. The nerves in the morning. The small looks during the ceremony. The hug that goes on a bit longer than expected. The friend laughing too loudly at the back of the room. The dance floor when everyone has stopped caring what they look like.

I do not want to pull the life out of your wedding by over directing it. Liverpool weddings are often full of personality, noise, emotion and warmth. My job is to tune into that and photograph it honestly.

When portraits are needed, I will give you gentle direction. Nothing awkward. Nothing forced. Just enough to help you feel comfortable and make the most of good light, strong backdrops and a bit of breathing space away from the crowd.

You can see more of this approach on my candid wedding photography page, where I talk more about how I photograph real moments without turning the day into a performance.

A Liverpool wedding photographer with an editorial eye

There is a difference between natural photos and flat photos. I want the images to feel real, but I also want them to have shape, light, atmosphere and a bit of edge.

That means I am always looking for clean composition, interesting shadows, movement, layers and moments that feel alive. Sometimes that might be a quiet black and white frame in the morning. Sometimes it might be a sharp editorial portrait on the steps of a city building. Sometimes it is the chaos of the party, photographed in a way that still feels intentional.

Liverpool is brilliant for that mix. You have the historic architecture around St George’s Hall, the waterfront, the Georgian Quarter, the Baltic Triangle, the Palm House, the Royal Liver Building, converted warehouses, city streets, old pubs and pockets of soft light everywhere if you know how to look for them.

My work sits somewhere between documentary wedding photography and editorial wedding photography. Real moments first, with a strong visual eye running through the whole gallery. If that is the kind of balance you are drawn to, you might also like my page on editorial wedding photography.

Where I photograph weddings in Liverpool and Merseyside

I photograph weddings all over Liverpool, Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and the wider North West. Some couples are getting married in grand city venues, some in relaxed urban spaces, some in family churches followed by a party, and some in beautiful country houses just outside the city.

Liverpool has a brilliant mix of wedding settings, including:

City centre weddings
Liverpool city centre is ideal if you want strong architecture, easy movement between venues and a bit of atmosphere around you. Places like St George’s Hall, Liverpool Town Hall, Hope Street, The Municipal, Oh Me Oh My and the waterfront can all give your photographs a strong sense of place without needing to over plan the day.

Sefton Park and South Liverpool weddings
Sefton Park Palm House is one of Liverpool’s most recognisable wedding venues, with glasshouse light, greenery and space for a relaxed celebration. If you are planning a wedding there, I also have a dedicated page for Sefton Palm House wedding photography.

Waterfront and dockside weddings
The Titanic Hotel, Royal Albert Dock, the Liver Building area and the waterfront all bring a strong Liverpool feel. They work especially well for couples who want something urban, stylish and full of atmosphere.

Wirral, Cheshire and Lancashire weddings
A lot of Liverpool couples also choose venues just outside the city. I regularly photograph weddings across the North West, including venues in Cheshire, Lancashire, the Wirral and the Lake District. If you are still looking, my guide to luxury wedding venues in the UK might give you a few ideas.

Wherever you are getting married, the approach stays the same. I want the photographs to feel connected to the place, but never at the expense of the people.

What it feels like to be photographed by me

I know a lot of people feel awkward in front of a camera. I hear it all the time. You might love documentary wedding photography, but still worry about the portrait bit. You might feel fine around your friends, then suddenly freeze when someone points a lens at you.

That is completely normal.

I am not there to make you perform. I will not ask you to do anything that feels fake or uncomfortable. I will give you a bit of direction when it helps, then let things settle into something more natural. Sometimes the best photographs happen once you stop thinking about the photograph.

The aim is simple. You enjoy the day. You stay present with your guests. You get a gallery that feels full of life, but still looks considered and beautiful.

If being photographed is one of the things you are nervous about, have a read of my guide on how to feel less awkward in photos. It will give you a good idea of how I think about comfort, confidence and natural portraits.

Liverpool wedding photography for the whole story

A wedding gallery should not just be a set of couple portraits. It should bring back the full feeling of the day.

That means the getting ready part. The ceremony. The room before people walk in. The drinks reception. The family dynamics. The speeches. The portraits. The evening light. The dance floor. The tiny things you missed because you were too busy living it.

I am interested in the photographs that get better with time. The ones that might not seem like the obvious hero image at first, but become more important because of who is in them or what they mean.

That is why I place so much value on observation. Weddings move quickly, and the best moments are rarely announced. You have to be ready for them.

Black and white wedding photos with feeling

Some Liverpool weddings suit colour beautifully, especially when there is strong styling, flowers, city light and a full dance floor. But black and white photography has a different kind of strength.

It strips the frame back to expression, shape and emotion. A hand on a shoulder. A face in window light. A quiet look during the speeches. A split second on the dance floor.

I use black and white when it adds something to the image, not just as a filter. It is a huge part of how I see weddings, especially when a moment has a timeless, documentary quality to it.

You can see more thoughts and examples on my black and white wedding photos page.

How much does a Liverpool wedding photographer cost?

Wedding photography prices in Liverpool vary depending on experience, coverage, date, travel, albums, second photographers and whether you are planning a single day or something more involved.

I create collections around what each couple needs. Some weddings need full day coverage from morning until the party is fully underway. Others might need something more bespoke. The best place to start is by checking availability and telling me a little about your plans.

If I am available, I can send over the relevant pricing information and a few full galleries so you can see how a complete wedding story looks from start to finish.

You can also read more about how to think through your choice in my guide on how to find the right wedding photographer.

Planning wedding portraits in Liverpool

You do not need to disappear for hours to get strong portraits. In fact, I usually think the opposite is better.

The best portraits often come from choosing the right short window of time, finding good light and keeping things relaxed. Around Liverpool, this might mean five minutes on the street outside your venue, a quiet moment near the docks, a walk around the Georgian Quarter, a few frames on the steps of a city building, or some soft evening light just outside the reception.

I will always work around the flow of the day. I do not want to take you away from the people you love for longer than needed. The portraits matter, but the day matters more.

If you want more ideas for planning strong images without letting photography take over, my page on wedding photo ideas is a useful place to start.

Why couples book me for Liverpool weddings

Couples usually book me because they want a photographer who can do both sides well. They want the real, unposed moments, but they also want images with style. They want someone calm, experienced and easy to be around. They want to look back at their photos and feel the atmosphere of the day, not just see a record of what happened.

That is what I care about.

I have photographed weddings across the UK and around the world, but Liverpool weddings always have something distinct about them. The humour, the warmth, the architecture, the music, the families, the way people throw themselves into a celebration. It is a brilliant city to photograph, and an even better place to get married.
