Jess & Steve's Wedding - The Photographers Story

Friday the 6th June 2014, it was one of the most beautiful days of the year. All day long there where clear skies and warm sunshine. The perfect day for a wedding. However, the wedding was the following day, Saturday 7th June 2014. Whilst walking my dog and enjoying an ice cream I checked the weather for following day. Thunderstorms. All day and easing off towards late evening. Not the news myself or the wedding party and guests where hoping for. It had been forecast for a week but you always have that hope, its wrong. Staying positive I went about my day keeping in touch with the bride to inform her how excited I am to shoot her wedding and regardless of the weather it’s going to be a great day.

Saturday Morning and the dark skies cast over showing little promise of even a glimmer of hope. The thunder sounds as I’m preparing my equipment and getting ready. I make the short 20 minute drive to the mother of the bride’s house with the windscreen wipers on the whole way. The two bridesmaids, the mother and father of the bride and young Nia are all at home beginning there preparations for the day. I began by taking some shots of the bride’s accessories including all of her jewellery. Taking my time to be creative whilst maintain composition and focus.

I’d of loved to have gotten some shots of her ancillaries and dress outside but light rain fell from the dark clouds above. By the time we left the house the rain had stopped but the clouds still cast a white blanket above. The ceremony took place at the Edith Weston Suite at Barnsdale Hall, Rutland.

Jessica look both beautiful and really excited getting out of the car, there where big smiles on the faces of her father Ken, her two sisters who where her bridesmaids and her daughter Mia. The ceremony was superb; standing at the front looking back at everyone smiling was brilliant. It was great to see everyone so happy.

After the ceremony and drinks, everyone headed outside ready to throw confetti. The weather had changed dramatically for the better. The sun was beating down and the clouds, all but a few had disappeared. The couple came out as everyone threw their confetti and looked really happy leaving the building as a Mr & Mrs Jones.

Before the family and group photographs, myself, my wife Victoria and the driver took the couple off on a short drive to get some shots of the newlyweds alone.

On our return to the reception we took the group photographs and then headed inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches. A great part of the day and one I love to photograph as you get some great candid reaction shot of people. The speeches where great, not to mention how happy everyone looked.

After food, the sun was beginning to set outside so took the opportunity to get some shots of the immediate wedding party. The bride and groom, the groomsmen and ushers, the bride and her bridesmaids and a few extras of mother and father of the bride.

The last of my duties where to photograph the cutting of the cake and the first dance.

It was a real privilege to be the photographer for Jess and Steve’s wedding. I had such a good time and felt like a guest for most of the time I was there. They both have great families who should both be real proud of them. I wish them all the best for the future, what a great couple. I met some great people and I would love to work with many of the people I met in the future. More photographs of Jess and Steve's wedding can be found by clicking here..
